1.0  COMPENSATION

1.1  Each voting member of the board of education shall receive a base amount not to exceed $3,000 per year (July to June), paid equally on a monthly basis, as compensation for services.

 

2.0  INSURANCE BENEFITS

2.1  Each voting member of the board of education shall be eligible to participate in the districtís Health and Life insurance programs during the term of service as a board member.Board members, except any student member, may receive the same health and life insurance benefits as a full-time certificated employee (see USD Insurance Benefits Policy 005.0600).Board members will be responsible for the lowest employee portion of the health insurance premium not to exceed their monthly compensation.Board members will receive the same Life Insurance benefit as full-time certificated employees of $50,000 at the cost of the school district.Board members may also participate in supplemental life insurance at the cost of the board member.

 

3.0  VOLUNTARY PROGRAMS

3.1  Each voting board member may participate in any voluntary programs such as Dental, Optical, etc., the same as any full-time certificated employee.Board members are responsible for their own cost of voluntary programs.

 

4.0  BOARD MEMBER EXPENSES

4.1  Reimbursement to board members for travel expenses for attendance to regional, state, or national conventions, meetings, and workshops shall be made by the district when attendance is authorized and deemed by the Board to be necessary and desirable in carrying out the educational functions of the district.As per state code 53A-3-202(5), each board member shall submit an itemized account of necessary travel expenses for board approval.Board member travel reimbursement shall follow USD Policy 004.0520 Travel Expense/Reimbursement, as well as any other established requirements.

4.2  Voting board members shall also be compensated for necessary expenses incurred by them and approved by the Board on behalf of the School District in their discharge of their duties as board members.

 

 

 

5.0  PUBLIC HEARING FOR ADOPTION OR REVISING COMPENSATION SCHEDULES

5.1  In the event the board chooses to adopt a new board compensation policy or make changes to the current compensation policy, the board shall first hold a public hearing on the proposed compensation schedule or schedules at which all interested persons shall be given an opportunity to be heard.

5.2  In addition to satisfying the notice requirements for an open board meeting, the board shall also meet the specific notice requirements for a public hearing on board member compensation [53A-2-202(3)].

 

6.0  UTAH RETIREMENT SYSTEM (URS) TIER 2 ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS

6.1  For purposes of Utah Retirement Systems (URS) coverage, the Uintah School District classifies all elected officials as ineligible.Eligibility for retirement coverage under Utah Retirement Systems shall be administered in accordance with the statutory rules governing the Utah Retirement System.
