005.0660         ANNUAL LEAVE

REVISES POLICY 005.0660 (LAST APPROVED 12/12/06)

1.0              All employees contracted for 240 days or more and hired to work 30 hours or more, earn the hour equivalent of ten working days annual leave after one full year of employment. Upon completion of five years of successive employment the employee will earn the hour equivalent of one additional day annual leave each year to a maximum of the hour equivalent of fifteen days.  Current Career employees who have been contracted for three or more consecutive years, moving from a contract of fewer than 240 days to full-time contracts of 240 days or more and meeting the minimum number of hours, qualify for annual leave as outlined here-in based upon years of full-time service with the Uintah School District (see chart).  A current employee who has not been contracted for three or more consecutive years, moving to a 240 day or greater contract with the School District will be considered as a new employee in terms of annual leave.

1.1              If an employee who qualifies for annual leave begins their contract in the middle of a contract year, the employee will be credited with annual leave after one year of employment as stated in Section 1.0.  However, the amount will be prorated when being awarded for the first time, after which new annual leave will be awarded at the beginning of the next contract year.

3.0              All employees working 240 days or more and contracted for at least 30 hours but less than 40 hours per week qualify for annual leave days as described above, with the number of annual leave days earned to be prorated according to the number of hours worked per week.  Any employee contracted to work fewer than 30 hours will not qualify for annual leave.

3.1              If an employee works 2 separate jobs for a total of 30 hours or more, the employee does not qualify for annual leave.

3.2              Employees working 30 hours or more on a temporary basis do not qualify for annual leave.

4.0              An employee will be permitted to carry over no more than the hour equivalent of 10.0 days of their previously awarded annual leave.

4.1              The definition of a previously awarded annual leave day is the hour equivalent of a day that was not earned in the contract year that was just completed.

4.2              Previously awarded annual leave in excess of the hour equivalent of 10 (ten) days will be lost after July 1st.

5.0              Upon separation of employment; an employee will be paid for any unused previously awarded annual leave at their base hourly rate.

5.1              If an employee completes their contract in the year of separation, the employee will also be paid for the annual leave earned during that year.  For example, if an 8 hour 250 day employee (assuming final contract day is June 30th) who earns the hour equivalent of 15 days a year separates from employment after completing their contract on June 30th, the employee will receive payment for the “new” hour equivalent of 15 days.  Under this method, an employee can receive an annual leave payout up to the hour equivalent of 40 days.

5.2              The annual leave payout for the Superintendent and Business Administrator will follow the same method using the hour equivalent of days as specified in their individual contracts.

6.0              Annual leave for the Superintendent and Business Administrator will be determined through contract negotiations between them and the school board.
