REVISES POLICY 005.0680 LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LAST APPROVED 06/02/09)

1.0  Leaves of absence, without pay and employee benefits, for up to one year in length, may be granted by the Board of Education to any contracted employee who has worked for the district a minimum of five years, for medical or educational purpose, or for any purpose deemed appropriate by the Board of Education. The employee must submit a written request stating the purpose of the leave, the length of time requested, and the beginning and termination dates of such leave.

1.1  When a Uintah School District paraeducator is required to leave his/her classified job with USD in order to student teach, or when he/she is hired to work as a district teacher intern, he/she may apply for a leave of absence from his/her regular job, regardless of the number of years employed by USD, and he/she may apply and be deemed eligible for the Paraeducator-to-Teacher scholarship.

2.0  Upon completion of the leave said employee will be placed in a position comparable to when the employee took said leave if a position is available in the district. When an employee returns to the district from leave, the employee will resume his/her previous placement on the salary schedule.

3.0  During the leave of absence, the employee will earn no paid time off (PTO) or vacation leave (250-day contracted employees). Upon the employee’s return from a leave of absence, all paid time off (PTO) leave accrued prior to the leave of absence will be reinstated; however, vacation leave accrued prior to the leave of absence will not be reinstated.
