REVISES AND UPDATES POLICY 006.0100 SELECTION AND ADOPTION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL (LAST APPROVED 2/8/05)

 

1.0              The Uintah School Board hereby declares it the policy of the District to provide instructional textbooks and materials for grade levels K through 12. Students in grades 9 through 12 will be required to pay a textbook rental fee for utilization of books.

2.0              Authority for the selection of classroom instructional materials is delegated by the Board of Education to the District Curriculum Committee, composed of all principals with the Curriculum Director serving as chairperson. Members of the teaching staff and principals shall serve on a District Adoption Committee to review all materials and recommend to the District Curriculum Committee its three top choices for adoption. The District Curriculum committee will review the top three choices and recommend one to the Board of Education for its final approval.

3.0              All basic textbooks selected for the District must appear on the Utah State Office of Education RIMs (Recommended Instructional Materials searchable database) list.

3.1.            Supplementary Instructional Materials such as workbooks, learning kits, companion textbooks, and programmed materials used in the classrooms must have the approval of the building administration.

3.2.            Any deviation from basic adopted programs in the District, either for experimental purposes or permanent changes in Curricular materials, methods, etc., must receive prior approval from the District Curriculum Committee, composed of all principals with the Director of Curriculum serving as chairperson.

4.0              In an effort to promote regular evaluation of curriculum and materials of Instruction, to maximize subject articulation K through 12, and to assure better utilization of textbooks, a decision will be made to adopt new basic textbooks or to retain currently used textbooks on a regular basis according to the following schedule:
