REVISES 006.0800 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN POLICY (lAST APPROVED ON 10/08/02)

 

1.0              Each school community council shall annually evaluate the schoolís state mandated summative test results and use the evaluation in developing a school improvement plan.In evaluating test results and developing a school improvement plan, a school community council may not have access to data that reveals the identity of students.

2.0              The improvement plan shall be designed to improve student achievement and shall:

2.1              Identify the schoolís most critical academic needs.

2.2              Recommend a course of action to meet the identified needs.

2.3              List any programs, practices, materials, or equipment that the school will need to implement its action plan to have a direct impact on the instruction of students and result in measurable increased student performance.

2.4              Address associated needs for staff professional development.

2.5              Describe how the school intends to enhance or improve academic achievement, including how financial resources available to the school, such as School Trust Land, state and federal monies, will be used to enhance or improve academic achievement.

3.0              The school improvement plan shall focus on the schoolís most critical academic needs but may include other actions to enhance or improve academic achievement and community environment for students.

4.0              The school principal shall make available to the school community council the school budget and other data needed to develop the school improvement plan.

5.0              The school community council may develop a multiyear school improvement plan, but it must be reviewed and approved annually by the Board of Education.

6.0              Each school shall:

6.1              Implement the school improvement plan as developed by the school community council and approved by the Board of Education.

6.2              Provide ongoing support for the councilís plan.

6.3              Report annually to the Board regarding academic achievement.

7.0              A school community council may create subcommittees or task forces to: (1) advise or make recommendations to the council; or (2) develop all or part of a plan listed in section 2.0 of this policy.

7.1              Any plan or part of a plan developed by a subcommittee or task force shall be subject to the approval of the school community council.

7.2              A school community council may appoint individuals who are not council members to serve on a subcommittee or task force, including parents, school employees, or other community members.

8.0              The school community council shall adhere to Utah Code 53A-1a-108.5 as it develops and implements its school improvement plan.
