1.0              Adult education programs have a responsibility to provide educational opportunities to adults and out-of-school youth who have not graduated (USOE R277-733-1B).  Uintah School District establishes the Adult Education Program for adult students and out-of-school youth who meet the entrance requirements of the program.

2.0              The Utah Adult High School Completion program (AHSC) is a program of instruction that leads to an Adult High School Diploma. The Utah State Board of Education must approve the subject matter taught. Subjects must be taught by Utah State Board of Education-certified teachers (USOE R-277-502-5). The Utah Adult High School Completion program is also referred to as Adult Secondary Education.

3.0              Entrance Requirements:

3.1              An individual who is a legal resident of the United States, makes his/her true and permanent home in Utah, and:

3.1.1        Is 16 years of age or older, or whose high school class has graduated;

3.1.2        Is under 19 years of age and is married; or

3.1.3        Has been adjudicated as an adult.

3.2              Out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 to 1 less than 19 years of age who have not graduated and who are a resident of the district, may, enroll in the Adult Education Program with the following requirements:

3.2.1        A completed “Education Withdrawal and Application Form” from previous school counselor; and

3.2.2        A letter of approval from the student’s parent/guardian; and/or parent signature on “Education Withdrawal and Application Form”

3.3              Pursuant to state law, all public education funds are required to follow the student.  If state funds are not being collected, the student is eligible to generate regular state WPU (USOE R277-733-6).

4.0              Requirements for Graduation   See USOE R277-733-7

4.1              Twenty four units of credit are required for graduation from the Uintah School District Adult Education Program.

5.1              In addition to issuing credit for successful completion of a course offered through a district adult education program, adult education programs can also document credit for educational activities completed outside the district program. Written documentation of the experiences below must be contained within the students file in perpetuity.

5.1.1         


6.0              Student Assessment

6.1  Before an individual becomes an enrollee of the adult education program, he/she must complete an academic assessment approved by the Utah State Office of Education, Adult Education Services, to determine his/her functional academic skill levels.

7.0              General Education Development (GED)

7.1              Upon successful completion of the GED Test, an eligible student will be awarded a “Utah High School Completion Diploma”.

7.2              Eligibility to take the GED Test

7.2.1        The applicant must be at least 16 years of age if the applicant’s  graduating class has graduated; or

7.2.2        The applicant is 16 or older years of age and the applicant’s graduating class has not graduated, the GED testing center requires the following:

7.2.2.1  a letter from the school district within which the applicant resides indicating the applicant is not regularly enrolled in school;

7.2.2.2   “Education Withdrawal and Application Form”, completed at a meeting with school counselor, student and parents.
