June 2, 2009 Uintah School District Board of Education business meeting

Report on UHS-Sicily High School Student Exchange:  Fifteen Uintah High School students had the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program in Sicily for two weeks in April.  Wes Baden, Advisor, and some of the students gave a report to the Board of Education members. Students commented on the positive educational experience it was for them.  As part of the exchange program, students from Sicily will visit Vernal in September for 12 days. 

 

District Office Summer Hours:  Superintendent Charlie Nelson announced that the summer hours for the District Office is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; the office will be closed on Fridays.  Staff will be in the office from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This began Monday, June 1st and will end July 31st.

 

Contract Renewal with Wilkins Bus Lines:  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to approve the indemnity agreement with Wilkins Bus Lines for the allowance of the use of Uintah School District buses.  JoAnn Cowan seconded the motion; motion carried.

 

Approval of Policy 005.0320 Grievance Policy & Procedure:  (1st & 2nd Reading)  A motion was made by JoAnn Cowan to approve Policy 005.0320 as presented on first and second reading.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried.

 

Approval of Policy 005.0680 Leave of Absence:  (1st & 2nd Reading)  A motion was made by JoAnn Cowan to approve Policy 005.0680 as presented on first and second reading.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried.

 

Approval of Policy 005.0900 Assignments and Transfers:  (1st & 2nd Reading)  A motion was made by Scott Ruppe to approve  on first and second reading Policy 005.0900 with the directive to correction the numbering in the policy.  Dr. Rodney Anderson seconded the motion; motion carried.

 

Approval of Policy 005.1000 Evaluation for Certificated Personnel:  (1st & 2nd Reading) A motion was made by Dr. Rodney Anderson to approve on first and second reading Policy 005.1000 with the directed changes.  Scott Ruppe seconded the motion; motion carried.  (Note:  Approval of the Evaluation Tools was tabled.)

 

Discussion on School Configuration:  Superintendent Charlie Nelson announced that the district is considering a Kindergarten–6th grade configuration for the elementary schools; two junior high schools for grades 7-9; one high school for grades 10-12.  No decision has been made at this point, but it is the direction the District is moving.
